ARTISTS IN TOWN 2008
Artist workshop from April 7th to 17th

Under the aegis of H.E. Farouk Hosni, Minister of Culture of
Egypt and with the patronage of H.E. Adil Labib, Governor of
Alexandria, the ECUME(s) Alexandria and Marseille organise the 3rd
Mediterranean Photo Workshop of Alexandria. From April 7th
to 17th, 10 photographers from France, Italy, Tunisia,
Syria and Egypt will come together in Alexandria. The
pictures they take during these ten days will then be
collectively exhibited at the Atelier of
Alexandria until April 28th.
INVITED
ARTISTS
Ten
professional Mediterranean photographers will gather in
Alexandria for a ten-day workshop: Abdalah Dustashy, Eslam
Kamal, Sabry Abo Egalah and Lila Hassan from Alexandria,
Mohammed Ardash and Maryam Hassan from Cairo, Marc
Chostakoff from Marseille, Lotfi Ghariani from Tunis,
Stefanaia Schubeyr from Genoa and Hossein Soufan from
Damascus.
THE
THEME
Alexandria
It is the atmosphere of this mythic place which
will guide the artistic choice. The sound of the urban
transports never leaves the walker on its way over ancient Roman
ruins to be found in the city. Buildings in European-style
architecture exhibit their fading charm alongside with obviously
modern constructions. While the crowd is wandering up and down
the Corniche, one can halt to have a shisha or some tea at one
of the numerous cafes, listening to the muezzin and his mystic
songs. Each photographer will show a different vision of
Alexandria, trying to seize a part of its myth, its cosmopolitan
heritage, its richly contrasted atmosphere.

THE
EXHIBITION
Opening – April 17th at
7.00 p.m.
The opening of the will be a public
event, displaying a panel of works of contemporary Mediterranean
photographers from different countries on the same object: the
city of Alexandria.
Exhibition – until April 28th
The exhibition of the works at the Atelier of
Alexandria will last twelve days. Information documents on the
workshop, the participating artists and the artistic approach
will be available for the public.
